Hello November 2, 2007. More articles, specials for massage in my clinic and information about massage therapy are included in this newsletter so be sure to read it all. “Are Massage Schools killing your business?” I have had a massage clinic now for over 5 years and used to get 5-10 clients per day, 5 days a week. It took a lot of work to get that many clients to come in. I attended many business groups, marketing groups, donated time to events and other ways of advertising my services. I figured that the national average for an hour of massage was $60.00 and therapists here charged from 35.00 an hour to 50.00 an hour. I decided to charge $40.00 per hour because it was a little higher than a school charges and I am a professional worth at least that much. Now there are 2 massage schools in a city of about 100,000 people. These schools are putting out new therapists all of the time and often only charging $25.00 per hour for massage. Now all of the sudden people call and ask how much for massage instead of when can I get in? I tell them I am professional and the cost is $40 per hour. They hang up and find something cheaper. My back up plan. I am now working full time at the new Isle Casino in Waterloo, IA. I am a casino housekeeper. I work from 3 til 11:30pm and try to get massage appointments before going to work each day. I'm glad I made this move because I am having a hard time even getting one massage a day. I am also going to get benefits soon. I am closing my office and going to start at home massages instead to broaden my area. The casino is also going to open a spa soon. I am going to have seniority over others applying for the massage positions because I already work their. I won't have to worry about getting appointments because I've been told the casino is going to most likely give tons of complimentary massages to their better customers. I am relying on this and still trying to keep up my massage store website at www.massagevillage.com and on ebay. Either way even if I stay a housekeeper and do out call work for massages or get on as a therapist at the casino I will be covered. I love massage and hope to keep doing it.
